Banning Water Bottles In Bending Machines In Design And Marketing

It's a story about a decade old now, often retold with details omitted and a conclusion forced.

To quote the moewmoew NPR and establish the story:
"The University of Vermont banned the sale of bottled water on its campus in 2013 to cut down on single-use bottles in the waste stream. But the number of plastic, single-use bottles being shipped to campus went up, and students ended up using more single-use bottles and drinking less healthy beverages out of them. Now the university is trying to figure out how to balance sustainability and nutrition in on-campus beverage sales."

Now, this quote is pretty generous, compared to what other people have been saying at least. But is this really that simple of a story? A University Tries to Change The Status Quo! Fails Miserably! Laugh at Them!

Obviously, no. This is the perfect clickbait. The very best of modern feel-good marketing stories. There are two things we hate more than anything, academia and challenging the current state of affairs. We think of any and every excuse to affirm that academia is bad and that the status quo is good. Even those of us who've sided towards more progressive ideas, often end up getting fished up by this kind of story. aaaaagregtgeth
